What is and isn't an allowable expense?
Whatever the industry, there's expenses 🧾.
And you'd be surprised at what some people try to sneak 👀 in as a business expense 💸.

🙌🙌 Cape in the news 🙌🙌
Cape, next-gen spend management platform taps Xero for their first Board Advisor
Excited to welcome Luis Sanchez, General Manager for Xero’s Global Partner Program, as the first Board Adviser to Cape 🙌🙌.
We're big believers that businesses run better when technology works for them. Which is why we're obsessively focused on building software that helps businesses, accountants and bookkeepers save time and money.
Given Luis's incredible experience from Xero, Dext and Intuit QuickBooks we're thrilled to have his support in helping us build towards that future.
Updates we’re following that we think you need to know
We’re keen to not give the lockdowns more airtime than we have in prior newsletters, but info on where you can get support if you’re in NSW with a new $6m R&D fund and the recently launched $807m business support package over in Victoria is super important.
The Jobkeeper subsidies successfully provided to 200k small business owners worth $98Bn helped keep 3.8 million Australians in work at the height of the pandemic is coming under scrutiny by the Senate. They’re demanding the ATO to expose businesses who gained support out of public interest.
As we move to a cashfless society, digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay & Samsung Pay) have become the de facto payment method. These do however fall outside of the scope of Least Cost Routing mandate, seeing merchants getting charged with higher transaction costs as these payments get pushed onto the more expensive international networks instead of Eftpos.
Be sure to sign up to the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) petition to mandate Least Cost Routing for debit card transactions to save here.
